For my first design project of the year, I have been working on t-shirt designs for Country Road Cabins. This project went through many different stages of editing to get them to where they are right now. In total, five designs were created. I wanted there to be a fun and outdoorsy type of look so it would really represent the feel of staying at the cabins.
The log cabin took the longest to make. This was created on Adobe Photoshop initially and later redesigned in Illustrator. I wanted to design a cabin from the wide variety of cabins that they have at Country Road Cabins. At first, this cabin was just a sketch on one layer in Photoshop. The brush tool was used for the line art of the cabin. The coloring process was started on the layer below and colored according to what this specific cabin looked like. I then added a wooden texture over the log parts of the cabin and used textured brushes to make the gravel road, the grass, and the trees. Finally, a shining yellow sun was added in the corner. This one is my favorite.
For the mountains design, it is a little less complex and a little more artsy. The first draft for this design was made in Photoshop and then redesigned in illustrator. I first put brush swatches of purple, blue, and pink together and then used the effect feature on illustrator to make it look like a splash of colors. Green mountains of all shapes and sizes were added using the pencil and fill tools and fit them into the splash. I then created a curved path using the curvature tool on Illustrator for the “Country Road Cabins” part of the text.
The leaf design also created first in Photoshop and then redesigned in Illustrator. In the summer, the leaves will usually be green colors. That is what I went for in this design. Country Road Cabins is surrounded by beautiful trees and leaves, and that was incorporated into this design. First, the ellipse tool was used to make the circle. Then created the three leaves to be put all around the circle and I copy and pasted them around a few times. I decided to go with vines above and below the circle to give out the outdoorsy vibe again.
This is my fall maple-leaves design. If you head on over to the cabins in fall, you will see trees and leaving falling that are orange, red, and yellow. All beautiful colors of fall, and that is what I was going for with this design. I made the red maple leaf first. I looked off a real-life maple leaf to know where to put the lines on the leaf. Then, it was colored, and a leaf stem was added. I copied and pasted it and adjusted the colors to make the yellow and orange maple leaves.
My mountains and trees design was the last one created. There were many different reference pictures online for trees and mountains that were from West Virginia. I took the reference images and what I knew from living here and first made the mountains in the background. Then made the tall green trees and the tall yellow trees using the pencil tool and then cleaned it up with the brush tool. My favorite part of making this design was the branches on the trees, I had to get very detailed with them, but it was a lot of fun. I put the smaller trees in the back, and then finally made the sun shining over the mountains using the ellipse tool and blended it out.
Overall, these designs were really fun and enjoyable to create. Even though these took a bit of time, I really got a lot of designing experience from making these.
